DNS

DNS is centralised in the core networking services account.

We use AWS Route 53 to provide and manage DNS records.

There are public and private hosted zones for the Modernisation Platform.

We also cater for application-specific public hosted zones.

DNS Zones

DNS naming

DNS entries for applications will be created in the relevant zone following the naming conventions below.

Public

<application>.<department>-<environment>.modernisation-platform.service.justice.gov.uk

Example

ccr.laa-preproduction.modernisation-platform.service.justice.gov.uk

Private

<application>.<department>-<environment>.modernisation-platform.internal

Example

admin-console.ccr.laa-production.modernisation-platform.internal

my-application.nomis.hmpps-test.modernisation-platform.service.justice.gov.uk

Custom

ppud.justice.gov.uk

Example

www.ppud.justice.gov.uk

wam.ppud.justice.gov.uk

Production DNS

Public facing services must have a service.justice.gov.uk domain name, excluding exceptional cases.

See the MoJ Technical guidance on Naming domains for more information.
